Steppin' Out

Steppin' Out is a Independent Living Program for young people with visual impairments transitioning from high school to college.  Students begin with a 4-week orientation program for easy adaptation to their new environment and the program. With the supervision of an on-site life coach, students get day-to-day assistance and training with:

  • Cooking

  • Orientation & Mobility

  • Budgeting

  • Street Safety

  • Shopping

  • Individualized Life Skills

  • Networking with age-appropriate peers

  • Assistance with enrollment in any needed community resources

  • Academic Tutoring

  • Additional on-call assistance as needed

Students must be enrolled or seeking enrollment in Vocational Rehabilitation Services in order to qualify for the Steppin' Out Program.  Those wishing to participate in the Steppin' Out Program must also attend the SAAVI Comprehensive Day-Based Training Program for a minimum of two days per week.

 

Enjoy living in spacious single or double cool student studio apartments equipped with FREE DSL, 30-Channel Satellite TV Access and Wi-Fi.  The Sahara Apartments are conveniently located at 919 North Stone Avenue.  Less then one mile from the University of Arizona and two blocks away from Pima Community College - Downtown Campus.  Students attending the University of Arizona have access to an hourly shuttle to and from campus.  Shops, cafes, restaurants and leisure are located within walking distance.
